Without additional hardware, you can only record one track at a time. However, you can change the preferences or Windows Mixer to play back (monitor) an existing project while you record an additional track.

To use multichannel/multitrack recording, you have to add more hardware鈥攅ither sound cards or mixer decks that can interface with a computer:

More advanced software include Adobe Audition, Sony ACID, and ProTools (and its hardware). What music software allows you to play an instrumental while recording vocals on a seperate track?
Unless you have access to a recording studio its difficult. First try and get hold of a omni-dircectional mic (where it picks up sound from only one area). Then get the instrument and a second mic for that.

Then record then to a sound card/hub to the computer, the edit it in you're software program.

Good luck, it's kinda difficult to explain but you need 2 mics or so for the amount of instrumentsWhat music software allows you to play an instrumental while recording vocals on a seperate track?idk Audacity...
