How many notes in half an octave?

I'm trying to write out "Belle" from Notre Dame de Paris for bass clef, starting with the below-staff G. The song is written in a Bb major chord. I assume that the key signature will be changed sometime during the song. How many notes in half an octave?Isn't it 8 half steps? How many notes in half an octave? An octave is twelve semi-tones (half steps), Or 8 letter names. Half would be 6 half steps or 4 letter names.

The key signature will only change if the song modulates to a new key. There are several ways to modulate to a new key, such as modulating up a whole step. There is also the V of V modulation, the relative minor/major modulation, the parallel minor/major modulation, etc.

To determine if the song modulates you need to carefully listen to determine if any new accidentals have been added or changed. The key of Bb has two flats, Bb and Eb. If that changes than you have probably modulated to a new key.How many notes in half an octave?Oct is a Latin or Greek prefix for "Eight" hence octave, octopus, octagon etc.

That means that to transpose a piece or song by an octave you would move it's key by 8 notes (12 steps).

That also means that to transpose it by half an octave you would need to move it 4 notes or six steps up/down.

To achieve this from Bb, I am quite sure you would have to play it in F.

If you just want to change the range in which something is played then put a bass, baritone, alto or tenor clef in place of the treble clef, an educated musician will know that this means the notes are in a different key.

I hope this helps you =]How many notes in half an octave?
The first guy got it right.
